“Most people found a reason not to like him”

And yet, he’s the second-best stallion of his crop, and sired a Group 1 winner
faster than two of the last three champion sires in Australia…

PART 1

“We’ve had a lot of good horses but none of them have done that”

His dam, Texarcana, wasn’t deemed smart enough for Not A Single Doubt, and was sent instead to Laurel Oak’s second choice, California Dane.

The story of Rebel Dane was born…

Including his debut, Rebel Dane won three consecutive city races
in his first preparation.

After winning his first stakes race, a Group 2, Rebel Dane ran Pierro to within a neck in the Hobartville Stakes. But who followed them home in 3rd and 4th?

Proisir and Dundeel.

It truly was a vintage crop for stallions.

As a 7-year-old, Rebel Dane won his second Group 1, the Manikato Stakes.

In doing so he defeated nine Group 1 winners including Chautauqua,

Buffering and

English

PART 2

A slow start

After nearly every stud in Australia and New Zealand turned him down, Rebel Dane found a place at Swettenham Stud.

Needing 60 paying mares to break even, he ended up with a first crop of just 28 foals.

The following year he produced
just 26 foals.

Not financially viable, he was
then moved to Glen Eden Stud
with just 15 foals coming out
of his first two seasons
there.

Rebel Dane was up against it
yet again.

PART 3

A 2YO Metro race before Christmas

As his first crop of juveniles hit the track it was clear that he had overcome the odds yet again.

Subterranean turned out a quality 2-year-old, winning the G3 Ken Russell Memorial ClassicRebel Dane’s first stakes winner.

“An absolute dream”

After breaking her maiden in December as a 2-year-old, Fireburn became Rebel Dane’s second stakes winner in the G2 Sweet Embrace Stakes.

The rest, as they say, is history…

PART 4

“What he's doing is quite incredible”

6.1%

Rebel Dane’s prepotency is undeniable. Of his third-crop stallion peers, Rebel Dane’s 6.1% SW/Rnrs is better than:

Maurice (2.3%)
Capitalist (3.8%)
Astern (3.8%)

In fact, he’s beaten only by Extreme Choice, whose initial service fee was three times Rebel Dane’s.

Rebel Dane has sired a Group 1 winner faster than two of the last three champion sires in Australia.

Faster than Written Tycoon; faster than Snitzel.

2/3

$104,303

Of the 2017 sire group, Rebel Dane has the highest return of earnings per foal at $104,303.

65

He upgrades his mares too.

His two stakes winners were each out of 65-rated mares, who cost a combined $23,000.

PART 5

“I can’t wait to get my hands on a few myself”

Standing at Widden Stud, Rebel Dane covered over 100 mares for the first time in 2022, accounting for 78% of his total mares.

Widden are offering to cover the cost of potential mares being assessed for suitability by the Laurel Oak Pedigree Analysis system (LOPA).

“He’s come from a very low base and, now he’s being crossed with some good mares that have done the job, I can’t wait to get my hands on a few myself.”
